This hairstyle was popular in the 1950,s 1960's and 1970. I've done a lot of French rolls in the last ten, even twenty years in some form or another.
For those who love 1950’s hairstyles you'll find here some French rolls or French twists. For those after 1960's hairstyles I have some beehives for you. Some of my beehive hairstyles are a mixture of a beehive and a French roll. If you're looking for 1940's hairstyles or victory rolls please go to the Vintage Hairstyles page.
Some French Rolls turn into Beehive Hairstyles
You may have noticed that a lot of beehive hairstyles (but not all of them) are a mixture of a French twist at the back and a Beehive at the top - great vintage hairstyles. I find that they're easiest done on hair that has a bit of texture. (Hair that is a bit coloured and not too silky - hair that teases well).
One beehive hairstyle here is on a beautiful redhead who has a piece of hair sweeping over her forehead, blending back into the rest of her hair, with a hair brooch at the back.
You'll see a beautiful blonde girl with a French roll, not quite beehive. It’s so elegant. I loved doing this hairstyle!
The French roll / beehive hairstyle with the hat is worn by a lovely lady who had a different hairstyle every day whilst judging an equestrian event at Werribee Park. Her hats and outfits were so exquisite!
A colourful French roll on this page has the underside of the French roll first twisted in rows and then blended into the roll – just for something different.
Another French roll is twisted the opposite way to the way I'd normally twist, with a big flower at the top.
A French Roll is a great bridesmaid's hairstyle
French rolls are great wedding hairstyles. Just add your own touch to make them different somehow. Soften them up with a few curls or some flowers. Adding a hair ornament usually works well and dresses it up nicely. They can be as plain as you like or you can make them sophisticated by adding layers of twists or curls. Keep them small or make them bigger by back combing or by adding hair padding.
These hairstyles were happily created by Bev Ryrie – Melbourne hairdresser - wedding hairdresser - Call me when you want a French roll, beehive hairstyle, vintage hairstyle or any other formal hairstyle.
