Colour Correction - try not to colour your own hair
After being locked in for a while people are deciding to cut or colour their own hair or get a family member to do it. It's a shame because most don't end up with the colour that they had hoped for. Hairdressers make it look so easy, but you can't get the same result that we get. Why is that? It's because hairdressers have years of training. Also, hair colours are much more complicated than you would think they could be. Try to leave it to us if you can. This hair colour correction was required after someone tried to colour her daughter's hair. The end result was beautiful. It was, however, a long process and cost a bit of money. Try to leave the hairdressing to the hairdressers if you can.
COVID-19 ... Let's play it safe when I do your hair
Update by Bev Ryrie
I'd like to ease your mind and let you know that when I do your hair I'll be following strict hygiene methods.
During this Coronavirus crisis, I'll be wearing a mask when I do your hair .
I'll be sanitising my hands. When I wash my hands I'll use my own towel to dry my hands.
My equipment is sterilised. Towels and wraps are freshly washed.
Cutting equipment eg: scissors and clippers are wiped with alcohol swabs after use on each client.
I have plenty of brushes, combs, clips, wraps, towels, etc. So I use fresh, clean equipment on each client.
Equipment that I use for your hair will be taken away in a plastic bag and kept separate from my other equipment.
I carry a credit card machine if you'd prefer to use your card, rather than handle cash.
If you have cold symptoms or have been in physical contact with anyone who has been overseas or is a Coronavirus suspect - please don't book an appointment with me, or please cancel your appointment if you have one.
I'm also traveling a little further than I normally do to accommodate people who are in need of a mobile hairdresser.
When you’re ready to make a booking please call me on 0418 374 303.
I wish everyone good health and happiness at this trying time.
Regards, Bev Ryrie - 27-3-20

Watching as Grace grows her hair...
I posted an article in May 2017 about Grace who was growing her hair. Well Grace is still growing her hair. I trim off a centimetre or less every three to four months. Grace is happy to keep growing her hair. It's in beautiful condition, but getting thinner at the bottom. There are very few split ends to be seen.

Another catch up with a favourite client
A beautiful hat
I love doing upstyles
It was lovely catching up with one of my favourite clients again a few weeks ago. Wendy judges equestrian events all over Australia. This time Wendy was judging at the Royal Melbourne Show. It's always a very early start so I make sure to set three alarm clocks!!! Wendy is used to it!
Wendy always sends photos of her outfits and hats so that I can think of some hairstyles ahead of time. Her outfits are always exquisite.
Wendy's daughter Jade judges too. She'll be coming to Melbourne to judge soon. I'm already thinking of hairstyles for her. Jade's outfits are gorgeous too.

Hair Expo 2018 in Melbourne was excellent!
Hair Expo 2018
Bev Ryrie, Melbourne
Melbourne Hair Expo was great. I really believe that when you're in the hair and beauty industry you never stop learning. I'm always attending seminars. Sometimes I might spend a whole day at a seminar and not learn much, but there's always something I pick up, even if it's only small. That's how I evolve as a hairdresser, by picking up the seemingly insignificant ideas, appreciating the "ah-ha" learning moments, mixing it all together, gaining from years of experience, knowing that there is always so much more to learn from others. Hair Expo is where you can learn so much, from so many, in a short time!
I spent two days at Hair Expo. For me it was attending back to back seminars, with virtually no time to eat or drink. There was plenty to purchase - I had to keep myself in check there. It would have been very easy to just keep buying and buying. Unfortunately I didn't attend the Salon Summit or the Gala night. Next time I'll try and attend everything.
Bev Ryrie - "Cant wait for the next Hair Expo!"
Everyone's asking for spiral perms!
Perm on long hair
More and more clients are asking for spiral perms. I do have to knock a lot of people back because their hair isn't in good enough condition to perm.
This perm on Maria's hair took a number of hours to do. I had to wind very small sections of hair so that I could fit it on the normal perm rods that I used. I used ninety perm rods. It was a great result.
Maria used to braid her hair regularly to get a curly look. No need for the braids anymore.
When you're ready to have your hair permed give me a call.

Longest hair I've trimmed - and Grace is still growing it!
Longest hair I've ever trimmed
Grace has the longest hair I've ever had the pleasure to cut. Mind you I only have to cut less than one centimetre off her hair every few months, as that is all that is needed. Grace had her hair cut from waist to chest length around mid to late 2009 and has been growing it ever since.
" I wash my hair weekly only. My weekly routine is to whisk 1 or 2 whole eggs with olive or macadamia oil, like a mask, have it sit in my hair for 30 minutes or more, then shampoo it out (with lukewarm water, of course, because the egg will cook in hot water), and condition. I lightly oil my hair during the week too, with argan or olive oil, which also helps me to arrange it in braids or a bun. I rarely wear it loose. I don't use blowdryers, curling irons, or anything like that. I think my hair is too fragile. I can't dye my hair because of severe allergies."
Thanks for sharing your story Grace. - Bev Ryrie - mobile hairdresser - Melbourne - 8-5-2017
Hair Up with a hat for Werribee Cup 2016
Werribee Cup Hair
On Sunday I had the opportunity to work with fashion designers Luke and Ali from Birdskin. They have won awards for their fashions which include clothing, hats and jewellery. These guys are men of many talents, Luke also does photography and Ali does make up. You can buy Birdskin fashions at Birdskin.net and Etsy.
Wearing their exquisite fashion for the day was beautiful, national finalist at Miss World Australia Rashi Kapoor,
Rashi kapoor was a national finalist at Miss World Australia and works in finance.
More clients are asking for perms now. Most are asking for soft perms. Bec was after a soft hair perm but with a bit more curl than a beach wave perm. Bec had never had a perm before, had quite a bit cut off her hair and changed her look significantly.
This photo was taken straight after the perm. Bec wanted something that was soft enough to leave to dry naturally. She can also blow dry her hair and tong it for bigger curls.

Oaks Day hairstyle 2016 – more curls & fascinators
Oaks Day Hairstyle
Lauren came down from Sydney for Oaks Day. She told me later that she'd had a great time at the races.
Lauren's whole outfit was stunning. Her fascinator was amazing and the colours in her dress were striking. She looked gorgeous!.
Lauren wore her hair in big curls which she loved.
Melbourne Cup hairstyle - 2016 - curls & fascinator
Melbourne Cup Hair
Hair Up, curls and waves...
Derby Day started with all long hair curls and waves. Melbourne Cup Day began with hair up and then curls and waves. The milliners never cease to amaze me, with the spectacular fascinators they create.
Pictured here is Kristin who is visiting for a while from Los Angeles. Kristin had her hair curled and had an exquisite fascinator made to match her gorgeous dress. Kristin not only looked beautiful for the day, but told me that she had a fantastic time at the Melbourne Cup.
New look for the Bev Ryrie Mobile Hairdresser PRICES Page
New Price List
I've changed the format of the hairdressing price list on my website for everyone's convenience.
At first glance it's a shorter page making it easy for you to find what you're looking for quite quickly. Hairstyle categories on the page expand and contract, so that you don't have to scroll too much.
To make your favourite hairstyle pictures easier to find I've changed the names of the hairstyle pages and changed where you'll find the different hairstyles. Hairstyles now come under categories such as wedding hairstyles. hair buns, curls, beehives, French rolls, braids etc.
For those interested in following me on Pinterest I have added a Pinterest 'Follow Me' link at the top of each page on this website. There are also 'save me' links on the gallery pages. View the Hairstyle Gallery 29-8-16
